The vote for Billy Donovan is something that has eluded him for quite a while. The Dean of SEC coaches, Donovan has four SEC titles to his name and two national championships, but has been snubbed for the award throughout his tenure.
It was a well-deserved honor that was long overdue for a coach that has made Gators basketball into a perennial power and annual post season participant.
Senior forward Chandler Parsons has been the glue for the Gators in the 2010-2011 SEC title run. The Gators won only their fifth SEC title ever this year and Parsons 11.4 points, 7.8 rebounds, 3.6 assists and 1.0 steals per game were a big reason why.
It has been a very successful season for Florida and it all doesn’t fall on just Donovan and Parsons. Junior guard Erving Walker and sophomore guard Kenny Boynton were named to the second team all-SEC as well. Boynton averages 13.7 points, 1.5 rebounds, and 2.5 assists per game while Walker averages 14.5 points, 3 rebounds, and 3.5 assists per game.
Patric Young, coming off the bench all year, was named to the SEC’s Freshman all-conference team as well. Young is a bruiser inside and has averaged 3.3 points, 3.4 rebounds, and nearly one blocked shot per game in only 18.1 minutes a game.
Here are the SEC’s awards that were handed out on Tuesday by a vote of the coaches.
