Jenkins Dismissed from the Gators

Will Muschamp didn't waste much time making a decision about Janoris Jenkins. After the senior cornerback was arrested on Saturday morning and charged with marijuana possession for the second time this year, the first-year Florida head coach dismissed Jenkins from the team in a meeting Tuesday morning.

"After meeting with Janoris Jenkins today, we both felt it was in his best interest to move ahead to the next stage of his career," Florida head coach Will Muschamp said in a release.

The Pahokee native was a First Team All-SEC selection last season and decided to return for his senior season after undergoing shoulder surgery after Florida's final game of the regular season. He was thought to be a potential first round pick, but the injury would have kept him from working out at the combine and individually for teams.

Jenkins missed spring practice while recovering from the surgery but was expected to be fully healthy for the start of the 2011 season.

It was the third arrest since Jenkins came to campus.

"We appreciate Janoris' contributions to the University of Florida during his time here and wish him the best of luck," Muschamp said.
