Gator Commit Ogbueze Making Waves

Braxton Ogbueze is fine tuning his PG skills

It took a while, but Florida Gator point guard commitment Braxton Ogbueze has moved into the top point guard spot nationally and is still impressing. We caught up with the big time shooter with improving passing skills and he talked about his game, and what may be ahead for his 2011-2-12 recruiting class that should be a great one for Billy Donovan.

Braxton Ogbueze has steadily been earning the respect of those that follow high school level basketball. He has earned a spot as the top ranked point guard in the 2012 class on Scout.com and FOX Sports.

FOX Sports and Scout.com basketball analyst Evan Daniels reporting from the recent NBA Camp has stayed the course with Ogbueze with his analysis as the top point guard in the land.

"In a showdown with Kyle Anderson, Ogbueze went right at the much bigger defender," Daniels wrote. "Using his speed, Ogbueze attacked, pulled-up for jumpers and even tossed in a runner in the lane. Much has been made about the battle for the top point guard spot in the 2012 class and Ogbueze has made as good of a case as any. The Florida commit plays a tough brand of ball and rarely backs down from a battle."

Ogbueze says it is hard work that has gotten him noticed and made him a better player.

"I just think I am getting a lot better and I have been putting in a lot of hard work," Ogbueze said by phone this week. "I've been bringing my point guard skills in not only in practice but in the games and I think I am getting a lot better at them.

"I'm just getting my teammates involved. Over the years I knew I could score, but I just think I am getting better getting the ball to my teammates."

Ogbueze does appreciate the new attention he is getting and knows he has to continue to work.

"It feels good knowing the hard work paid off, just getting in the gym every day and working hard," he said. "It feels good that people notice."

One guy Ogbueze will be teaming up with at Florida is someone that should really make him a better point guard. Shooter Michael Frazier Scout.com analyst Brian Snow had this to say recently about Frazier.

"Arguably the top pure shooter in the class, Frazier had it working as usual in the morning," Snow wrote. "… When he does have the ability to get his feet set and shoulders squared the shot almost always goes down, and he did that with regularity during his team's first game."

Ogbueze talked about his future teammate as well.

"Michael Frazier, I actually roomed with him at a camp," he said. "We talk and stuff and are good friends. I saw him play at the NBA camp. He can put the ball on the floor and he is a really good spot up shooter. If you find him spotting up on the wing, you should definitely get him the ball."

Ogbueze knows he and Frazier are going to need help down the road, so he is in the wear of several big men to talk about them coming to Florida as well.

"I like the big man Adam Woodbury, Tony Parker, and also Joel James," he said. "I also like the wing man T.J. Warren, he can flat out score. I am looking at them guys and talking to them. Hopefully they will realize that Florida is a good place. I am friends with all of those guys."

He will be busy trying to sell Florida at a camp in Chicago this week. He also wants to get back to Gainesville soon.

"My family and I are trying to get there before the end of July," he said. "I know we will get down there soon, we will just have to plan it out and find a way."
