Demps Will Report August 5

Any decision that had to be made has been made. As Florida head coach Will Muschamp told the media last week at SEC Media Days he expected Jeff Demps to play this football this fall for the Gators, Muschamp had a meeting with Demps today and both made it clear he will do just that. The temptation to run track and earn money right away is put off at least until the end of his senior season.

Pressed for an answer that really only Jeff Demps could give but Muschamp was pretty sure of last week, the Florida coach told everybody what he expected and it appears to be true.

"As I stated last week in Birmingham, Jeff Demps will be joining our football program when our squad reports for camp on August 5th and when we start practice on August 6th," Muschamp said in a released statement. "I met with him today and Jeff is looking forward to focusing on football for his upcoming senior season."

The senior from Groveland is the team's leading rusher and has been named to several all-conference teams and a few all-American teams due to his athletic ability and world class speed that does show up on the football field. Injured much of last season, Demps says he is ready to get back to it.

"When I came to Florida I wanted to compete at a very high level in both sports and I've done that. Football has been my first love, but I also love running track," Demps announced. "All of my coaches have been supportive and I've always been able to concentrate on whatever sport I'm competing in during that season. I concentrated on track this past Spring and Summer, and I'm now ready to concentrate on football. I'm looking forward to getting back together with my football teammates and having a great senior season."

Demps has rushed for 1901 yards and 17 touchdowns in three years with an outstanding 7.1 yard rushing average. He also has 309 receiving yards and 41 catches in his career to go along with 391 career return yards on special teams. He is a threat in more ways than one.
