Florida sophomore center Patric Young was named to the John R. Wooden Award Preseason Top 50 on Monday. Young was chosen by a preseason poll of national college basketball media members.

Patric Young earned SEC All-Freshman honors during the 2010-11 season, averaging 3.4 points and 3.8 rebounds off the Florida bench. He helped the Gators win the SEC Championship and make it to the Elite Eight. Young appeared in 37 games and made two starts while averaging 17.8 minutes per game.

The the loss of center Vernon Macklin and forwards Chandler Parsons and Alex Tyus, Young is expected to see more time at center this season. He is expected to start.

There were five other SEC players selected. Vanderbilt had center Festus Ezeli, guard John Jenkins and guard/forward Jeffery Taylor all selected to the Top 50 list. Mississippi State guard Dee Bost, Alabama forward JaMychal Green and Kentucky forward Terrance Jones were both selected, too.
