“We obviously have lost some players,” Florida head coach Billy Donovan said. “There could be some games where we looked like the tenth ranked team, and there could be same games where we don’t look like we should be ranked. It’s just something of people’s opinions. I’m much more concerned about us getting better as a team. That’s the most important thing right now.”
This is the sixth time the Gators have been ranked in the preseason top ten in the coaches’ poll, all of which have come under Donovan. This is the team’s highest preseason ranking in the coaches’ poll since the Gators came in at preseason No. 1 to start the 2006-07 season.
“That’s a good accomplishment, but we haven’t proven anything yet,” Florida guard Kenny Boynton said. “We’ve got to go out and prove we’re worthy of that ranking.”
Florida will face four opponents also ranked in the preseason top ten, including No. 2 Kentucky, No. 3 Ohio State, No. 5 Syracuse and No. 7 Vanderbilt. The Gators will also take on No. 17 Alabama, No. 16 Arizona and No. 19 Texas A&M.
