LERNER HONORED: Florida backup punter David Lerner will receiver the Dick Schapp Sportsman of the Year Award, given by the Greater New York Chapter of the Crohn’s & Colitis Foundation of America.
He will be given the award at the 44th Annual memorial Awards Dinner in New York on December 7. Previous winners include Hall of Fame manger of the Los Angeles Dodgers Tommy Lasorda and former New York Yankees and Los Angeles Dodgers manager Joe Torre.
Lerner was diagnosed with Crohn’s disease in July. He lost nearly 15 pounds and was receiving IV treatments, but he didn’t miss a practice during fall camp. He was given a scholarship in August and won the starting punters job.
