With Chris Rainey held out because of an injury, Jeff Demps gave the Gators just what they needed. The running back was recognized for his effort on Monday morning when he was named SEC Offensive Player of the Week.

Demps carried the ball 23 times for 158 yards and two touchdowns. It was the third time this season that Demps went over 100 yards and the seventh of his career. He also finished with 213 all-purpose yards to earn the honor for the fourth time in his career.

Demps took a toss play 52 yards to the end zone to give the Gators a comfortable 26-14 lead in the fourth quarter that would help secure the win.

LERNER HONORED: Florida backup punter David Lerner will receiver the Dick Schapp Sportsman of the Year Award, given by the Greater New York Chapter of the Crohn’s & Colitis Foundation of America.

He will be given the award at the 44th Annual memorial Awards Dinner in New York on December 7. Previous winners include Hall of Fame manger of the Los Angeles Dodgers Tommy Lasorda and former New York Yankees and Los Angeles Dodgers manager Joe Torre.

Lerner was diagnosed with Crohn’s disease in July. He lost nearly 15 pounds and was receiving IV treatments, but he didn’t miss a practice during fall camp. He was given a scholarship in August and won the starting punters job.
