Posted Dec 12, 2011

Florida took home both of the SEC weekly basketball awards, the league announced Monday afternoon. Patric Young was named SEC Player of the Week while Brad Beal was named SEC Freshman of the Week. The Gators became the first team to sweep both awards this season. Florida returns to action Saturday as they take on Texas A&M in a neutral site game in Sunrise, Fla.

Patric Young was named the league’s player of the week after leading the Gators to a home win over Arizona. Young recorded a career high 25 points while also pulling down ten rebounds in 38 minutes of play. The sophomore center went 12-for-15 from the field.

After the Florida win over Arizona, Young recorded his second double-double of the week in a win over Rider. Young had 12 points and ten rebounds as the Gators won in Young’s hometown of Jacksonville.

The two double-doubles last week gave Young four for his career.

Brad Beal was named the league’s freshman of the week for the second time this season. He averaged 13.5 points and five rebounds in the wins over Arizona and Rider.
