Florida guard Brad Beal was named SEC Freshman of the Week for his performance in wins over Mississippi Valley State and Florida State. It's the fifth week out of seven this season that a Florida player was honored as SEC Player of the Week or SEC Freshman of the Week.

Brad Beal recorded SEC Freshman of the Week honors for the third time this season, the most of any freshman in the conference this year.

In the wins over Mississippi Valley State and Florida State, Beal averaged 17 points, six rebounds, two steals and one assist. The Florida freshman posted 13 points and six rebounds against Mississippi Valley State after he drilled three shots from behind the three-point line.

Beal saved his best for the rivalry game against the Seminoles. The freshman led the Gators with 21 points, the third time he went over the 20-point plateau this season.

Florida returns to action on December 29 at Rutgers at 7 p.m. The game will be televised on ESPN2.
