Ryne Rankin got to spend time on campus and at The Swamp checking everything out and hearing directly from Florida’s linebacker coach, D.J. Durkin.
“It went really well,” Rankin said of the trip. “I liked the campus, the facilities, and the atmosphere. I talked to Coach Durkin a lot. They evaluated my film and he liked me a lot, they just want bigger linebackers right now. I measured in at 6-1 and 222 right now.”
Rankin was a guest of one of Florida’s best recruiters in Travaris Robinson. He relates well to the Gators’ defensive back coach. Rankin says that Robinson and the staff are going to stay on top of him as a prospect.
“Coach Travaris Robinson is recruiting me,” Rankin said. “He is cool, funny, energetic, talks to you like a friend, not really like a coach. They are going to come and look at me in the spring and I will camp. They like me and think I can probably play up there.
“They like that I am relentless, hardnosed, a true linebacker that will hit you and not bite at your ankles. I run through tackles.”
Rankin says he has played the linebacker position since he was eight years old, something that is apparent when watching how natural he is at the position. He currently holds offers from Cincinnati, Louisville, and Western Kentucky. He liked what he saw at Florida and those things are part of what he will look strongly at when he does make a decision and if Florida is in the mix.
“I think the atmosphere of being a Gator stood out, wearing orange and blue and running into The Swamp,” he said. “(My decision) will be about the atmosphere at the college.”
