“To confirm the questions being ask lately I have reached a decision and I am returning to Gainesville for my senior season #go gators,” Kenny Boynton said on Twitter.
Boynton led the Gators with 15.9 points per game during the 2011-12 season. He shot 40.7% from behind the three-point line and 44% from the field. He played in all 37 games for the Gators and started all but one. He came off the bench against Kentucky in the final home game of the season after he was late for a team meeting.
Boynton is set to graduate in December but thought about a professional career, hoping that would involve the NBA.
The return to Gainesville gives Boynton a chance to rewrite some of the Florida records. He is already seventh in UF history with 1,589 points in three years. With 502 points during his senior season, Boynton can break the school’s all-time points record of 2,090, held by Ronnie Williams (1981-1984).
Boynton was a First Team All-SEC selection in 2011-12. Florida center Patric Young has also said multiple times that he will return for his junior season. The lone question mark remains Beal.
