The most significant drop Florida made was in the poll released by Baseball America. After the publication called the Gators a strong national title contender for most of the year, they were dropped from the top spot to No. 7. Florida State, who the Gators travel to Tallahassee to play on Tuesday at 6 p.m., moved to the No. 1 spot.
The USA Today/ESPN Coaches’ Poll was more kind to the Gators. Florida slipped to No. 4 in their poll while the Seminoles were also No. 1 in that poll. Despite dropping to the fourth spot, Florida had the second most votes for the first-place position (four).
Collegiate Baseball has Kentucky at the No. 1 spot in their poll with the Seminoles at No. 3. Florida fell to No. 4.
The positive for Florida is that it’s still the middle part of the season. O’Sullivan knew his team would lose its No. 1 ranking, and he’s hoping the team can use it as a positive.
“Maybe,” O’Sullivan said after Saturday’s loss to LSU when asked if losing the ranking could motivate his team. “We’ll talk about it. If it does help, that would be great.”
The Gators will take on Florida State on Tuesday night at 6 p.m. Starting pitchers haven’t been announced for either team.
