With Alabama baseball mired in one of the worst seasons in its long history, it stands that individual honors for Crimson Tide players would be in short supply. One Bama player, though, is on the watch list for a national award.
Alabama
senior shortstop Jared Reaves has been named to the 2012 Brooks Wallace Shortstop of the Year Award watch list.
Reaves, who is from Eastman, Ga., is one of 50 players on the watch list for the award, which recognizes the college baseball’s top shortstop. The award will be presented on June 30 in Lubbock, Texas, as part of the College Baseball Hall of Fame’s Night of Champions. the College Baseball Hall of Fame released the names of the players on the watch list.
Reaves began his career at Alabama in 2011, and has started all 109 games at shortstop that the Crimson Tide has played over the past two seasons. While primarily hitting third in the batting order the past two seasons, Reaves has a career .325 batting average, with eight home runs and 74 RBI. Additionally, he has 28 doubles for a .464 slugging percentage in two seasons.
This season, Reaves is third on the team with .303 batting average, which includes a team-high four home runs and he’s second on the squad with 27 runs batted in. He has 14 multiple hit games this season, bringing his career total to 43. Additionally, he has five multi-RBI games in 2012, totaling 20 in two seasons. He has hit safely in 36 of 45 games in 2012, which included a season-long 10-game hit streak earlier this season.
Alabama continues a three-game series against
Mississippi State
on Saturday at 2 p.m., and concluded on Sunday at 1 p.m. The Bulldogs took the first game Friday night, 3-0.
