Gators Will Host a Regional Staff
Posted May 27, 2012

For the first time in school history, the Florida baseball program will host an NCAA Regional for the fourth-straight time starting on June 1. The Gators will start the quest for their third College World Series berth on Friday. The committee will announce the full field for the NCAA Tournament on Monday at noon on ESPNU.

During the previous three Regionals that Florida hosted, the Gators are 9-0 and have advanced to the Super Regional round in all three seasons.

Last year, the Gators opened the Gainesville Regional with a 17-3 win over Manhattan before two wins over Miami to eliminate the Hurricanes by scores of 5-4 and 11-4.

McKethan Stadium has been the site of 10 NCAA Regionals, and this season will be the 11th year.

The NCAA announced 15 other teams as host sites on Sunday—Arizona, Baylor, Florida State, LSU, Miami (Fla.), North Carolina, North Carolina State, Oregon, Purdue, Rice, South Carolina, Stanford, Texas A&M, UCLA and Virginia.

The remainder of the NCAA Tournament bracket will be released on Monday. The Gators are expected to be a national seed and host all of their games in Gainesville before a potential berth in the College World Series.
