It hasn’t taken long for Jeffery Holland to get noticed. When you stand 6-2 and 225 pounds and are a freshman in high school people will notice. And the college coaches that come around Jacksonville Trinity Christian have also taken notice of the super athlete. He just received his first offer from a BCS school and has three years of high school football to play.

Last week an assistant coach from Georgia Tech came by the school and decided that they were going to make Jeffery Holland a priority. The 2015 running back / linebacker was quite happy when Trinity assistant coach Gerard Ross told him about getting a scholarship offer from the Yellow Jackets. Holland said there was already a relationship there when he and his 7 on 7 teammates decided to tour the Atlanta campus of Tech back in March.

“I went down to Georgia Tech during spring break,” Holland told us this week. “We went to a 7 on 7 and then over to Georgia Tech.”

An assistant coach was by the school and later the two talked about Holland one day lining up and playing football in the ACC.

“He told me he was going to offer me a college scholarship,” Holland said. “At first I thought he was playing, because it was the first time a coach told me and not my coach.”

Holland has a teammate that is committed to the Gators for the 2013 class in safety Nick Washington and he himself grew up a Gator fan. Assistant Travaris Robinson was by the school to see what talent was on hand at TC. They have a lot of young talent including Holland.

“I hope Florida offers, that is what I am hoping,” he said. “Nick talked to T-Rob and he says he liked me. He just wanted to see what I do in game situations and see if I can handle it.”

Holland is a bruising running back with speed, but he also loves to play defense. As an outside linebacker he uses his physical tools to play aggressive and nasty. The college coaches may not even know where they would play him at this point and he isn’t sure himself.

“They like my size and that I am physical,” he said. “I just love the game of football. I am tall and strong, I get to the ball fast. A lot of people think I’m not fast because I am so big. I have long arms and can make tackles. I will probably go to college as an athlete and figure it out when I get there.”

In the meantime, more colleges are coming in to see him perform and evaluate the big athlete from Jacksonville. A couple of other programs may be on the verge of offering him as well.

“I also talked to Middle Tennessee and Marshall,” he said. I have a cousin that goes to middle Tennessee, (sophomore cornerback) Jared Singletary.”
