The addition of Dorian Finney-Smith is a needed one with the lack of front court additions to the roster in recent years. His 6.3 points and 7.0 rebounds a game earned him ACC All-Freshman honors for the 2011-2012 basketball season.
With Finney-Smith on board it does mean that Florida will have to figure some things out roster wise. The Gators have eight returning players on the roster in Kenny Boynton (SR), Erik Murphy (SR), Mike Rosario (SR), Casey Prather (JR), Will Yeguette (JR), Patric Young (JR), and Scottie Wilbekin (JR). They also signed four players who will be freshmen in 2012-2013 with Michael Frazier, Braxton Ogbueze, Dillon Graham, and DeVon Walker. With the addition of Finney-Smith and Harris, the roster would be 14 and the NCAA only allows 13 scholarship players in Men’s Basketball.
There are a couple of different scenarios that could happen. Someone would have to move on for whatever reason, or someone would have to take a scholarship hit and walk-on for at least one year.
Finney-Smith and Harris will not be able to participate in the upcoming season as they sit out a year due to the transfer, but they will provide critical practice help in the front court for a team that really only had five players listed as front court players on the roster.
There has not been official word on the transfer, but multiple sources have said it will happen and we will have more when things become official.
