Billy Donovan learned about the importance of non-conference scheduling years ago when Florida’s easy route to conference play kept it out of the NCAA Tournament. He won’t let it happen again. The Gators announced their non-conference schedule on Tuesday with tough matchups until conference play begins.

“This is as challenging a non-conference schedule as we’ve had during my tenure at Florida,” said head coach Billy Donovan. “We’ve made deep runs in the NCAA Tournament each of the last two years and a schedule like this helps expose us to a number of different styles of play that we could see later in the season, and also does a great job preparing us for SEC play.”

Florida opens the regular season on November 9 against Georgetown in the Navy/Marine Corps Classic on an aircraft carrier. The Gators then return home for a matchup with Alabama State before hosting Wisconsin on November 14.

After taking on Middle Tennessee in Tampa, Fla., on November 18, the Gators play three straight home games against Savannah State (November 20), UCF (November 23) and a rematch with NCAA Tournament opponent Marquette on November 29.

Florida starts December with a road game at Florida State on December 5 before traveling to Tucson, Ariz., to take on Arizona on December 15. The Gators’ only home game in December is against Southeastern Louisiana on December 19.

The Gators take on Kansas State in Kansas City, Mo., on December 22 before playing Air Force at a neutral site in Sunrise, Fla., on December 29. The non-conference schedule closes with a trip to Yale in New Haven, Conn., a trip close to home for senior forward Erik Murphy.

Florida plays one exhibition game on November 1 when it hosts Nebraska-Kearney.
