Chris Walker has been contemplating a college choice for quite some time.
Early Sunday morning the Bonifay (Fla.) Holmes County standout made his choice official. Walker selected the Florida Gators, over strong interest from Louisville and Kansas.
Walker, a 6-foot-10 power forward, will play in college with his travel team point guard Kasey Hill. Both Walker and Hill are ranked among Scout.com’s top 10 players in the 2013 recruiting class.
"When I really decided where I wanted to go was Indianapolis when Kasey and I were running the pick and roll," Walker told Scout.com "I looked at the bigger picture. I felt like we could win a national championship."
One of the premier low post prospects in the country, Walker has tremendous size, length, athleticism and energy. He helped lead Florida Elite (formerly the Florida Rams) to a championship at the adidas Invitational during the first evaluation period.
"I feel like I fit in perfectly," Walker said "I'm going to bring a motor to the team and be a leader."
After securing Hill on New Years eve, Florida went all out for Walker. Florida assistant Matt McCall was the point man on Walker's recruitment.
"Coach Donovan and the whole staff were at every game," he said. "I was like, this dude wants me more than anybody."
A five-star prospect, Walker is ranked No. 7 overall by Scout.com.
