Gators Add Another Donovan Staff
Posted Oct 9, 2012

Florida announced on Tuesday that the son of head coach Billy Donovan, also Billy, will transfer from Catholic University to join the Gators as a walk-on. Donovan averaged 4.0 points and 1.7 rebounds while making 19 starts over 46 games during his two seasons at CUA.

“I’m looking forward to contributing any way I can,” the younger Donovan said. “I’m excited to be a part of this team and to fill any role that helps make us better.”

Donovan averaged 5.9 points and finished second on the team with 49 assists as a sophomore last season.

Before attending CUA, Donovan was a four-year starter and first-team All-Conference performer at St. Francis, scoring over 1,000 career points in high school.

“It’s going to be great to have Billy here, both for our team and for our family,” said Coach Donovan. “I always want to be supportive and put him in a position to succeed, and I hope this will be a great experience for him.”

He will sit out during the 2012-13 season but is allowed to practice with the team.
