Official Visit Primer

Notre Dame is hosting a trio of official visitors this weekend to correspond with its showdown against Stanford and takes a look at where the Irish stand with each prospect.

No. 7 Notre Dame hosts Stanford on Saturday in what could be a tough game, but also one that could vault the Irish into national championship discussions. The Irish have a trio official visitors coming in for the game and to experience Notre Dame for the weekend, and breaks down where Notre Dame stands with each player making an official visit.

Chris Hawkins, CB, 6-0, 170, Rancho Cucamonga (Calif.) High
Official visits: Washington (Sept. 27), California (Oct. 6), Notre Dame (Oct. 13), Arizona State (Oct. 26) and USC (TBD)
The skinny: Of all the USC commits taking visits, Hawkins' name is always the one people in the recruiting world believe could flip. He already made a pair of official visits and has two others after this one. This is Notre Dame's shot to make an impression, but much like his recruitment before his commitment to the Trojans, getting him out of Pac-12 country could be a chore.

Isaac Savaiinaea, LB, 6-3, 230, Punahou High, Honolulu
Official visits: Texas A&M (Sept. 28), Notre Dame (Oct. 13), Stanford (TBD)
The skinny: This one is really interesting because there are several dynamics. Savaiinaea is committed to Stanford, so an immediate thought is he is visiting to watch his future team play. However, two weeks prior he visited Texas A&M, so he clearly wants to see other schools. He is also from the same school that produced Manti Te'o and Roby Toma, whom are are the likely hosts.

Max Redfield, S, 6-2, 195, Mission Viejo (Calif.) High
Official visits: Notre Dame (Oct. 13), USC (TBD) others under consideration.
The skinny: This one has free trip written all over it, and there is a danger of bringing in two USC commits from SoCal on the same weekend for what could be viewed as a free vacation. However, prior to Redfield's commitment to USC, he was listing the Irish in the top three. It is a long shot to get him to flip, but crazy things happen in recruiting.
