2015 Intro: Jahvoni Simmons

Ocean Lakes High (Virginia Beach, Va.) has a roster loaded with talent. One of those big-time playmakers is sophomore middle linebacker Jahvoni Simmons.

Last fall, Jahvoni Simmons burst onto the Beach District High School Football scene. Simmons started on the varsity squad as a freshman is and has become one of the top sophomores in the state of Virginia. Not surprisingly, Simmons is attracting his share of attention from college coaching staffs.

"I have an offer from ODU," said Simmons. "I'm getting looked at by (Virginia) Tech, UVA, Miami, Oregon, and North Carolina. ODU and UVA are recruiting me the hardest. UVA has talked to me a couple of times. At some point in time, I should be able to get an offer from them."

Simmons recently took a college visit. "I just went to the UNC game when they played ECU," he said. "I liked it – it was pretty good. I like the way they run their defense and how everything is set up."

There is one school Simmons hopes to hear from soon.

"I would like to hear from Clemson," Simmons said. "I've just always liked them since I was a little kid."

The 6-foot-1, 225-pound sophomore knows what he is looking for in a school.

"Academically, I just want to go to a school where I can get the best education possible," he said. "I'm looking for a football program that isn't about football all the time and a place where the team is a family. That's how it is at Ocean Lakes."

With his team off to a 7-0 start, Simmons has high goals for the rest of their season.

"I'm trying to lead the team and tackles and we want to go 1-0 each week," said Simmons.

Simmons is averaging more than 10 tackles per game. Ocean Lakes has the week off and returns to action next Friday against Kempsville.
