Alabama No. 2 in BCS standings

After Kansas State and Oregon were upset Saturday night, Alabama is now No. 2 in the BCS standings behind undefeated Notre Dame. Georgia and Florida are lurking at Nos. 3 and 4, respectively.

It was like New Years Eve in Tuscaloosa Saturday night.

Fans and some players (Barrett Jones makes a cameo in this video) took to the streets around the University of Alabama to celebrate Kansas State and Oregon losing games they were expected to win.

Kansas State was shocked by Baylor 52-24 on the road and Oregon lost to Stanford 17-14 in overtime at home.

And now, the Crimson Tide is No. 2 in the newest BCS standings. Notre Dame, the country's only undefeated team, is No. 1, and Georgia, who Bama could face in the SEC Championship game if they make it past Auburn this weekend, is lurking at No. 3.

Alabama was gliding through its schedule until two weeks ago when Texas A&M blew through town and pulled off an upset. Hope was all-but lost since the Tide was still the highest ranked one-loss team in the polls. All they needed was two from the Kansas State, Oregon and Notre Dame crowd to lose over the next several weeks and they'd be back in the race to Miami.

It seemed farfetched for any of those things, much less two of them, to happen, but they did and within minutes of each other Saturday night.

Now all Alabama has to do is beat Auburn (3-8, 0-7 SEC) in the Iron Bowl this weekend and take care of business against Georgia in the SEC Championship game on Dec. 1 and they can book a trip to Miami in January.

The Ducks fell three spots to No. 5. and the Wildcats dropped five to No. 6.

Last week, six of the top nine teams in the BCS standings hailed from the SEC. This week, the league has six in the top 12 (No. 2 Alabama, No. 3 Georgia, No. 4 Florida, No. 7 LSU, No. 9 Texas A&M and No. 12 South Carolina).
