Gators place six on AP All-SEC first team

After the preseason All-SEC first team was absent of Florida players, the Gators placed six on the first team released the Associated Press on Monday. There were two players from the offense, defense and special teams.

Senior running back Mike Gillislee joined Georgia freshman Todd Gurley as the two running backs on the All-SEC first team. Gillislee became the first Florida running back to break the 1,000-yard plateau since Ciatrick Fason did it in 2004. Gillislee ran for 1,104 yards in the regular season with 10 touchdowns, adding 146 receivng yards and one touchdown.

Tight end Jordan Reed also earned first team honors. The junior led the Gators with 44 catches and 552 yards, adding three touchdowns.

Kicker Caleb Sturgis will close out his decorated Florida career with first team honors. He went 23-for-27 in field goals while totaling 101 points this season. Sturgis went 13-for-15 on field goals from 30 yards or longer, including 3-for-3 from 50+ yards.

Punter Kyle Christy was also on the first team after averaging 46.1 yards per punt, including a long of 62. Christy totaled 25 punts of 50+ yards on the season, including 26 inside the 20-yard line with just six touchbacks.

Defensive tackle Sharrif Floyd earned first team honors after being fifth on the team with 41 tackles. Floyd leads the Gators with 11 tackles for a loss, adding one sack, six quarterback hurries, one forced fumble and one blocked kick.

Safety Matt Elam is the final Florida player that earned a spot on the first team. Elam was second on the team with 65 tackles, adding 10 tackles for a loss with one sack, four interceptions, five pass breakups and one forced fumble.

Cornerback Marcus Roberson was the only Florida player that earned a spot on the second team. He made 20 tackles on the season and recorded two interceptions while leading the Gators with 12 pass breakups.
