Tebow-mania hasn't exactly lived up to the hype in the Big Apple this year. Now it's looking like it could be one and done for Tebow as a Jet.

Forget quarterback controversy, the New York Jets have created a full fledge spectacle. This week third-stringer Greg McElroy was promoted to starting signal-caller following Mark Sanchez’s five turnover performance against the Tennessee Titans on Monday Night, and one person in particular isn’t exactly thrilled with Rex Ryan’s decision.

“Obviously, as an athlete, as a competitor, you want to be out there helping your team, fighting for victories,” said Tim Tebow in reaction to not being named the starter. "I think it’s fair to say that I’m a little disappointed."

This year has been a wild ride for Tebow who became the media’s darling during training camp, and a fixture on the sidelines throughout the regular season, not nearly making the impact many had anticipated in the Jets’ much -hyped Wildcat offense. New York’s coaching staff has been reluctant to give Tebow opportunities to prove his worth as a pocket passer, instead showing more faith in McElroy as a future franchise gunslinger.

“All you can ask for and all you want is a chance a chance, to go out there and play the game you love and help this team win football games,” noted Tebow. “That’s all I wanted.”

A team source told the New York Daily News that the Jets will try to find trade suitors for Tebow this upcoming offseason. According to the Jets’ Wildcat quarterback, he hasn’t demanded a trade, but didn’t deny that he could be on the move.

“I have not,” mentioned Tebow of making a formal trade request. “We’ll talk about that after the season though.”

At his Jets introductory press conference this past March Tebow used the term ‘excited’ over 30 times to describe his feelings on joining Gang Green. Nearly nine months later, in the midst of a season filled with media scrutiny, littered with losses and devoid of playing time, the former Heisman Trophy winner’s enthusiasm has been curbed, yet he still maintains a positive outlook.

“I don’t have regrets,” said Tebow of choosing the Jets over the Jaguars this past offseason. “I believe everything happens for a reason and it’s a learning opportunity for me. There’s a lot that I’ve learned, good and bad, and I still appreciate the opportunity to come be a Jet.”
