Florida head coach Will Muschamp announced two transfers when the team landed in New Orleans on Thursday morning. Sophomore safety Pop Saunders and redshirt junior offensive lineman Matt Patchan have both left the team and will pursue the opportunity to play somewhere else.

"I think both guys just needed a fresh start given their situations," Muschamp said.

Matt Patchan will be eligible to play during the 2013 season since he graduated in December. The Gainesville Sun reported that he is eyeing a potential transfer to Ohio State or Boston College. He would play for former head coach Urban Meyer at Ohio State or former position coach Steve Addazio, who was recently named the head coach at Boston College.

Patchan started eight games in his career at Florida while battling injuries since coming to campus in 2008. He started as a defensive lineman when the Gators won a national championship in 2008 before switching back to offensive line in 2009.

Pop Saunders played immediately as a freshman in 2011 and made nine starts. He missed the first two games of 2012 before returning at Tennessee.

Saunders played in eight total games during the 2012 season and made 18 tackles, one interception with a 29-yard return and four pass breakups. He also added one fumble recovery as a sophomore.

"He's one of our brothers and it's tough to see him leave the program," Florida linebacker Jon Bostic said. "Though at the same time, this might be what's best for him personally."
