Gators in the NFL: Divisional Round Staff
Posted Jan 13, 2013

After four playoff games over the weekend, former Florida players continued to play well. The Gators will have at least one former player win a Super Bowl ring this year.

The New England Patriots earned a berth in the AFC Championship with a win over the Houston Texans. Brandon Spikes started at linebacker for the Patriots and made six tackles. Aaron Hernandez started at tight end and made six catches for 85 yards. Jermaine Cunningham also saw time at defensive end.

Former Florida defensive tackle Ray McDonald started for the San Francisco 49ers and made four tackles in a win over the Green Bay Packers to earn a berth in the NFC Championship.

Linebacker Mike Peterson was active for the Atlanta Falcons and saw time on defense in the team’s win over the Seattle Seahawks to earn a berth in the NFC Championship.

Regardless of which team ends up winning the Super Bowl, a former Florida player is guaranteed to win a ring. The Patriots will face the Baltimore Ravens next weekend, and former Florida wide receiver Deonte Thompson has played for the Ravens this season despite not being active in their win over the Denver Broncos.

The Falcons and 49ers also includes a Florida player on each roster.
