UK's Mathies on midseason Wooden Award list

Kentucky senior A'dia Mathies was one of 20 players named to the John R. Wooden Award mid-season watch list on Tuesday.

Mathies leads the Wildcats in scoring (15.4 ppg), 3-pointers made (43) and 3-point percentage (.422), while ranking third on the team in rebounds (4.3 rpg), assists (2.1 apg) and steals (1.6 spg). The 5-foot-9 guard has posted double-figure scoring in 17 of 19 games this season, including four outings with 20 or more points. Her strong play and leadership has helped Kentucky (18-1, 6-0 SEC) earn a spot in the top five of both national polls during a 17-game winning streak.

The Louisville native is one of only two SEC players on the prestigious watch list, along with Texas A&M junior center Kelsey Bone.

The 36th Annual Wooden Award Gala will take place Friday, April 12, and will honor men's and women's Wooden Award winners, All-Americans and the Legends of Coaching Award winner Bill Self of Kansas. Recommended Stories
