The 6-4, 305 defensive tackle had a tough decision over the last few days choosing between national champion Alabama and the Florida Gators, but Jarran Reed went with the orange an blue.
Th Gators are in desperate need at the defensive tackle position and Reed marks the fifth one in the class. After losing both starting tackles and experienced backup Earl Okine.
Reed has two former teammates from EMCC on the Florida campus in Darious Cummings and Damien Jacobs and and really liked the staff. For him the decision seemed easy.
"I felt like they were the most genuine," he said of the Florida staff. "They have been recruiting me as long as anyone. They seemed to know me and knew more about me. I just felt like it was the right place for me to be."
"(Jacobs and Cummings) are great guys that I know I can come in and play with."
The Florida staff has told him he will be lined up in the three-technique and that is right up his alley with his abilities.
"They like my size, speed, and athleticism," he said. "It will fit real well in their scheme. They want me at the three-technique."
He isn't going to shy away from expectations about what Gator fans should expect from him.
"I am a good guy that likes to have fun," he said. "I will always give my all and they should expect great things from me."
Reed faxed his LOI in shortly after a ceremony at his school.
