Florida adds Townsend to 2013 class

The Gators looked to be content with their special teams unit going into the 2013 season but made a late addition to the 2013 recruiting class on Thursday afternoon with the addition of Boone High School punter Johnny Townsend. The son of two Florida alumni will join the Gators in the summer.

Johnny Townsend was a U.S. Army All-American punter this season after averaging 44.6 yards per punt as a senior in high school. He was named to the 2012 Florida Class 8A All-State team and played in the Central Florida All-Star Game. Townsend also won the 2012 Nick Saban Punting Competition and 2012 Chas Henry All-American Kicking Camp Punting Competition.

Townsend was originally committed to punt at Ohio State before Florida offered and he changed his mind.

FightinGators.com writer Bob Redman spoke with his father, Clay, on Thursday and confirmed the addition to the recruiting class. FightinGators.com will have much more on the late addition.
