Jonathon Crawford’s outing was a two-hit shutout, recording eight strikeouts and allowing just two walks. Through his first six starts before Saturday, Crawford had a 5.67 ERA after walking 11 batters and hitting seven through 33.1 innings. Saturday against Ole Miss was the start he hopes to build off.
“I felt really comfortable,” Crawford said. “I had my fastball and my slider going. It was a relief to get that. I had a lot of confidence in my stuff today, so I just went out and attacked.”
Crawford is the first Florida pitcher to earn the SEC Pitcher of the Week honor since Hudson Randall did on April 4, 2011.
After Florida dropped the series opener, Crawford’s outing evened the series before the Gators got the series win on Sunday with another shutout. It was the first time Florida pitchers threw back-to-back shutouts since 2010.
