Byrd's first offer is a big one

Tyler Byrd could play either side of the ball

The University of Florida hasn't thrown out a lot of scholarship offers for the class of 2016. The prospects in the class are just coming off of their freshman year in high school and a lot can change before they graduate. But, when they are that good, the offer comes and so is the case of Naples athlete Tyler Byrd.

Tyler Byrd camped at Florida on Saturday and he was pretty sure of himself. However, he seemed a little bit surprised when he was offered a full ride scholarship to play football for his favorite college program.

"That is my first offer and it makes me feel great," he said. "I came up to compete and get on their radar but to get offered is a blessing."

Florida evidently did a lot of homework on Byrd who is in the recruiting area of ace recruiter and defensive coordinator D.J. Durkin. How much can be out there on a guy in the ninth grade is questionable though.

"They liked that when they asked around they got all positive feedback and then for me to compete and get reps showed I wanted to work," Byrd said.

Byrd is still in Gainesville for the night with his mother and the two got the office visit with Florida head coach Will Muschamp to seal the deal. He said Muschamp liked that what he saw on film is what he got in the practice sessions of camp as well.

"He liked that he saw me on film and then to see me go out and do what I do on film," Byrd said of Muschamp's praise of him.

Byrd is heading home now and no further camp stops are on the agenda. With the offer he really wanted in hand , his mom seems to like what happened as well today.

"She likes it and is on board for me going to the University of Florida," he said before commenting if there is a chance he could commit sometime soon. "Hopefully."
