Magliozzi to sign with Mets Staff
Posted Jun 24, 2013

The Florida roster had just one remaining question mark with the MLB Draft. That question was answered on Monday night when Florida right-hander Johnny Magliozzi confirmed to FightinGators that he would forgo his remaining two years of eligibility and sign a professional contract with the New York Mets on Tuesday.

Johnny Magliozzi was arguably the most valuable arm on the Florida pitching staff, seeing time on the mound as the team’s closer or a starting pitcher in important games. He ended the year with a 2.67 ERA, best on the team from pitchers with at least four innings pitched. He was also second on the team with 67.1 innings pitched.

Magliozzi held opponents to a .213 batting average while allowing just 53 hits in 67.1 innings. He also walked 16 hitters to 57 strikeouts. Magliozzi said it was a tough decision and that he is “really going to miss Florida.”

Magliozzi was the only remaining question mark between the Florida players and recruits. The Florida baseball recruiting class will be on campus Tuesday to star their college careers and go through orientation.
