Three days before the Gators hit the practice field to open fall camp, Florida quarterback Jeff Driskel went under the knife. The junior underwent an appendectomy on Tuesday at UF Health Shands Hospital.

“Jeff had acute appendicitis and fortunately the medical staff caught it very quickly,” Florida head coach Will Muschamp said. “His surgery went well and how long he is out will be determined by how his body responds, which could be two weeks.”

The timing is bad as Florida looks at entering camp with only three scholarship quarterbacks in Skyler Mornhinweg, Tyler Murphy and Max Staver. None of the three has thrown a pass in a college game.

Driskel ended last season with 1,646 yards, 12 touchdowns and five interceptions. He also ran for 400 yards and four touchdowns last season.
