Driskel out for the season

Florida quarterback Jeff Driskel will need season-ending surgery to correct a fractured fibula on Sunday. The junior threw a pass into coverage that was returned for a touchdown by Tennessee freshman defensive back Devaun Swafford, but the damage to Driskel's ankle was far worse.

It didn't take long for Will Muschamp to realize there was a serious problem.

"When I saw him go down after he got hit and was throwing it, I saw him look the sideline and wave," Muschamp said. "I knew it was (serious). Jeff is as tough of a kid as I've been around. Right when he looked to the sideline and waved, I knew it was not good."

Jeff Driskel started the game 3-for-6 for 33 yards and the interception before he was forced to the sideline. Two trainers met him on the ground, where Driskel was squirming in pain. They talked to him, helped the quarterback to his feet, and he walked off under his own power.

After sitting on the training table for a few minutes, Driskel was handed crutches and made his way to the Florida locker room. The team found out at halftime that he was out for the season.

"Disappointed for Jeff," Muschamp said. "He has worked extremely hard for this season."

Tyler Murphy replaced him, going 8-for-14 for 134 yards and one touchdown. He added 84 rushing yards and one touchdown. Murphy will take over as the team's starting quarterback. Skyler Mornhinweg is now Florida's backup quarterback.
