Fowler named SEC Defensive Player of the Week Staff
Posted Sep 23, 2013

Defensive lineman Dante Fowler was named Southeastern Conference Player of the Week by the league on Monday. The sophomore had a breakout game in the conference opener against Tennessee.

Dante Fowler got the game started off with a bang for Florida after he burst into the offensive backfield and knocked the ball out as quarterback Nathan Peterman tried to hand the ball off to the running back.

"Oh snap, I'm going to blow it up," Fowler said after noticing he was unclocked.

Fowler ended the game with a team-high three tackles for a loss, including the only sack of the game. He also forced two fumbles while recovering one.

"It's a blessing," Fowler said of the honor. "It feels good. There's a lot of great players in the SEC, especially defensive players."

His teammates knew Fowler was unhappy with the way he played during the first two games, and he wanted to correct that against the Volunteers.

“From that first play, I knew he was angry about his play last week,” Florida defensive back Jaylen Watkins. “That was a great way to respond. He came to play."
