Purifoy earns defensive honor

The play of junior cornerback Loucheiz Purifoy turned heads across the country on Saturday night. He filled the stat sheet and impacted Florida's win over Arkansas in different ways, helping in pass coverage, as a blitzer and on specil teams. He was named the Walter Camp Defensive Player of the Week on Sunday.

Loucheiz Purifoy had the best game of his Florida career. He started his production with a strip sack in the first quarter that the Gators recovered. In the second quarter, he returned an interception for a touchdown. Purifoy added three pass breakups and one quarterback hurry while also having two punt returns for 17 yards.

Since 2004, Purifoy is the sixth Florida player to earn player of the week honors, but he's the first of those players to earn it on the defense side of the ball.

No. 17 Florida travels to face No. 10 LSU on Saturday at 3:30 p.m.
