Gators picked to finish second in SEC Staff

The media selected Florida to finish second in the Southeastern Conference this season behind Kentucky. The Wildcats were given 21 of the 27 first place votes, with Florida earning five and Tennessee securing one. The Gators also placed two players on the second team All-SEC team.

Senior center Patric Young received two votes for SEC Preseason Men’s Basketball Player of the Year. Young joined senior guard Scottie Wilbekin on the preseason second team All-SEC team.

Kentucky freshman forward Julius Randle was named SEC Preseason Men’s Basketball Player of the Year. The players behind Randle were Tennessee’s Jordan McRae (five votes), LSU’s Johnny O’Bryant III (three), Tennessee’s Jarnell Stokes (three), Florida’s Young (two), Ole MissMarshall Henderson (two) and Alabama’s Trevor Releford (one).

There were no Florida players on the first team.

The season starts on November 8, and conference play begins on January 7.
