Kentucky freshman forward Julius Randle was named SEC Preseason Men’s Basketball Player of the Year. The players behind Randle were Tennessee’s Jordan McRae (five votes), LSU’s Johnny O’Bryant III (three), Tennessee’s Jarnell Stokes (three), Florida’s Young (two), Ole Miss’ Marshall Henderson (two) and Alabama’s Trevor Releford (one).
There were no Florida players on the first team.
The season starts on November 8, and conference play begins on January 7.
