Gators start at No. 8 in coaches poll Staff
Posted Oct 17, 2013

Florida will begin the 2013-14 season at No. 8 in the USA Today Coaches Poll. The Gators join No. 1 Kentucky as the only two Southeastern Conference teams to be ranked in the preseason poll.

Florida finished last season 29-8 after a third straight appearance in the Elite Eight. The No. 8 spot is the highest the Gators have opened the season since being the preseason No. 1 in 2006-07.

The Gators are dealing with health concerns to start preseason practices, currently with four players in guard Eli Carter (leg), guard Michael Frazier (viral infection), forward/center Damontre Harris (hamstring) and forward Will Yegete (knee).

Kentucky received 16 of the 32 total first place votes. The Wildcats are the first team in the history of the coaches’ poll to be the preseason No. 1 after finishing the previous year unranked.

Tennessee (73), LSU (2) and Georgia (1) were the only three SEC teams to receive votes in the poll, but all three wound up outside of the top 25.
