Gators really interested in ‘Chukes'

It has been known for quite a while that Florida has low numbers along the offensive line. With the play up front this year seemingly declining, the Gators are turning the heat up on their offensive line recruiting a bit. New offers are going out and one of the new ones is for Southfield (Mich.) monster lineman Chukwuma Okorafor.

Chukwuma Okorafor is a native of Nigeria and a current resident of Southfield, Michigan. He's also become a highly sought after offensive tackle prospect that is currently committed to local Western Michigan and has picked up big offers lately from SEC powers Arkansas and Florida. Affectionately known as ‘Chukes' by his teammates, the 6-foot-6, 290 pound Okorafor is a beast on the Southfield offensive line and says he and his team seem to be playing pretty well.

"Our season has been going pretty good," he said late Monday. "We're 7-2 and headed to the playoffs. Personally I feel like I'm doing pretty well especially since last year. I have seen a huge improvement in my game."

Okarafor says that his strength is in his pass blocking and that he is working hard at the run blocking aspect of his game. The Gators need both and are after him hard.

He is contemplating visiting Florida for an official visit, but nothing is set up yet. He knows what it would take to switch his commitment from Western Michigan.

"A good coaching staff, academics, and environment," he said. "I just need to take a visit there and see how I like it."

An issue that would also be resolved is that of his mother. With a bit of a language adjustment still going on among other things they have to adjust to with the culture change and them already being far from their original home, it might be difficult for his mother to see him wander too far for college.

"My mom wouldn't really want me to go far...but if it's best for me then she wouldn't mind," he said. "I'm really still trying to convince my mom to come for the visit."

With all this in mind, Western Michigan is still the place for Okorafor right now. He was adamant in what he liked about his school of choice.

"The coaching staff and where the program is headed to," he said.
