Florida running back Kelvin Taylor saw action in 10 games and started four games during his true freshman year. He was second on the team with 508 rushing yards on 11 carries, adding five catches for 37 yards. Taylor tied for second on the roster with four rushing touchdowns and was fourth on the roster in total offense. Taylor’s carries increased when Matt Jones tore his meniscus against LSU on October 12.
Cornerback Vernon Hargreaves was named to the first team All-SEC defense by the Associated Press and the conference’s coaches earlier in the week, the first true freshman from Florida to be named to the first team All-SEC roster since punter Shayne Edge in 1991. He was the only freshman in the conference to earn All-SEC honors this year.
Hargreaves ended his freshman year with 35 tackles, three interceptions and 11 pass breakups, tying the Florida record by a freshman set originally by Janoris Jenkins in 2008.
Punter Johnny Townsend led Florida in punting with an average of 42 yards on 29 punts. He dropped six inside the 20-yard line and had five go for longer than 50 yards. His long on the season was 61 yards. Townsend punted in Florida’s final six games of the year after Ray Guy finalist Kyle Christy struggled in the first half of the year.
