Hargreaves earns another honor

Over a month after Florida’s football season came to an end, the awards continue to come in for freshman cornerback Vernon Hargreaves.

Vernon Hargreaves was named to the Football Writers Association of America Freshman All-America Team that was released on Monday afternoon. He was the only Southeastern Conference freshman to make the defensive team and one of five SEC players to make the team in total.

Hargreaves ended his freshman year with three interceptions, all of which came in the first four games. He also broke up 11 passes, tying the school record for a freshman set by Janoris Jenkins in 2008.

With the early departures of Loucheiz Purifoy and Marcus Roberson to the NFL, the Gators will lean heavily on Hargreaves at cornernback during the 2014 season. However, even with Purifoy and Roberson on the roster in 2013, Hargreaves didn’t take many snaps on the sideline when Florida’s opponent had the ball.
