The Florida Gators are continuing a strong month of recruiting with the addition of Deiondre Porter. The do-everything skill player de-committed from South Florida last week, was offered by Florida and Miami, and took an official visit to Florida over the weekend.
On Monday, Porter went on television on Brighthous Sport Network's show 'High School Scoreboard' and gave the run down.
Choosing between South Florida, UCF, Florida and Miami, Porter gave a quick word or two about each school.
USF: They gave me the first opportunity. They took a chance on me. The players and the coaches and this is my city.
UCF: They gave me an opportunity at corner. It is a pretty cool.
Florida: I took an official there. Everyone knows they have a dynasty over there. They are on the up. They had a down season but will make a comeback.
Miami: I always grew up liking Miami. It was an honor getting the offer and the opportunity.
Then host Ryan Bass asked Porter which school he would be attending as Porter reached for the Gators hat.
"For the next three to four years, maybe five, I will be playing for a national championship at the University of Florida," he said before offering up more on the Gators. "They are on TV all the time. I think everyone knows when you say ‘The University of Florida., everyone says ‘oh Lord, you going there?’ It was an honor and it wasn’t a position coach that called me, it was the head coach that called me for the offer."
Porter got the hard sell on Florida during his official visit from a big time player in Gainesville from his hometown.
"Talking to Vernon Hargreaves, just talking to him, he said these coaches want it and that city, they want it bad," Porter said. "For him to say that, they want me to be a part of it. Vernon Hargreaves is a freshman All-American and said he wanted me to come be a part of something great and build something. Two Tampa boys, so I told him I am going to come and be a part of it."
Being such a versatile player, Porter could wind up at any of several different spots on the field for the Gators.
"I feel like I can play anywhere," he said. "Whatever the team needs. I am not a selfish player. For Florida, if they want me to play corner, receiver, or quarterback I am there."
