The Juice: Gators' Receiver Recruiting

Adoree Jackson

With a week left, the recruiting board at Florida is narrowing and they are into filling the final needs in the 2014 class. One of the primary needs on the Florida roster is wide receiver where they can use a few play makers to add to the mix. With a week left we have four solid names at receiver and taking 2-3 three seems paramount in doing what they want to do on offense moving forward.

Florida's class is set to fill many of its needs but one area that it needs to finish strong in is at receiver. With just seven days left the Gators are looking to close from a solid bunch.

Receiver: The Gators need to add at least two. They need inside slot receivers with speed and quickness, guys that can get the ball shallow and in a flash turn it into a 60-70 yard touchdown. Speed is the key here and the Gators need to finish with two speed guys.

The Prospects: Adoree Jackson, Junipero (Cali.) Serra; Isaiah McKenzie, Plantation (Fla.) American Heritage ; Travis Rudolph West Palm Beach (Fla.) Cardinal Newman; Chris Worton (CJ), Homestead (Fla.) South Dade HS;

The Juice: Jackson is the national guy that would fill the need better than anyone else could. He is probably the best overall athlete in the country with speed and quickness like none other. He is a homerun waiting to happen. Florida is in the mix with locals UCLA and USC and also with SEC power LSU. Florida's track program is a huge draw for Jackson, but USC and LSU also have quality programs. He shut out Tennessee who was believed to be a threat because of proximity to his parents who live in Illinois. Most national folks are leaning to Florida on this one while the locals in California are leaning to USC. I am leaning to Florida on this one.

McKenzie is a difference maker on offense.
McKenzie is kind of the Florida version of the national Jackson. He is a lightning bug and a huge talent as a slot-receiver. He can be a force on special teams as well. The only thing that kept some programs from recruiting him was his height, but that has changed and once Florida got on him after a philosophy change on offense, a hoard of suitors came calling. He has been committed to Notre Dame but recently tweeted his choice of schools is "undecided". Florida feels like they a have a really good shot here, but don't believe he has given them a commitment yet. Notre Dame is getting a bit testy after being by his side throughout the process and helping him get qualified. He does have other options as well. It looks like a Florida – Notre Dame battle and a close one, but family issues could mean proximity is a huge deal here and the Gators are certainly the closest big program for him. I am leaning to the Gators here but by a slim margin.

Rudolph is more of an outside receiver, but a big time one at that. He can stretch the field, but has incredible strength for his size and is very quick as well. The Florida State commitment has never publicly wavered but has accepted the recruiting advances of both the Florida and Alabama staffs. FSU is done with their visits, Muschamp and receiver coach Joker Phillips went in-home Wednesday and both watched him play basketball Wednesday evening. Alabama will be by if they have not. Rudolph seems solid to the Noles at the moment although the gators continue to try and peck away at him. Right now I believe he ends up in Tallahassee.

Worton is an electric receiver in his own right. He could actually end up inside or outside and that versatility is a good thing. He was magic in his state championship game last month and a guy that Florida State wanted to keep, but he de-committed on Tuesday. Florida came in hard in the picture a few weeks ago and haven't let off. He visited the gators last week and had a great time by all accounts. West Virginia is in the mix now and he may take an official visit to Miami over the weekend coming. Florida looks to be the big leader here. I will go with the Gators, but wouldn't call it a slam dunk.

The Bottom Line: Florida needs to add at least two receivers, preferably at least two slot type receivers. Worton can certainly fit the bill and getting either of McKenzie or Jackson would fill the need quite nicely. They seem in position to meet the need here with just a week left.
