SCUTTLEBUTT: Leak and Midgett in the film room

Here's the latest "Insider" scuttlebutt on Chris Leak and Justin Midgett and what to expect from their film room exploits. Also an update on Jermaine Thomas.

As some of you may know, Chris Leak is well known in Gator circles for being a permanent fixture in the football office's film room. Despite Leak's legendary status in the film room, he's not one to rest on his laurels. Even in the summer, the football staff passes by him daily while he's soaking up knowledge and strategies in the film room. We're hearing he just can't get enough of it and it's going to pay off.

It won't be long before we'll start seeing our young rising star quarterback walk up to the line of scrimmage and audible out of a play that may not be best for a particular pre-snap defensive look. When that starts to happen, expect the offense to be much more efficient as a result. It's not hype - great things are definitely ahead for the Sophomore QB, especially after having a year under his belt in the system.

Don't forget Justin Midgett, though - he's not one to be outdone and has also been busy soaking up the offense in the film room as well. Justin's been looking at cutups (football jargon for video clips in sequences, i.e. all first downs, etc.) from the past spring and fall seasons and has a real desire to make a difference when it's his time to shine. The offensive system is starting to come easier and easier to him through film repetition and practice. Gator fans got a good glimpse of Midgett's capabilities in the Orange and Blue game, showing that there's much more to come from Justin down the road.

At the very least, the Florida Gators are set at the quarterback position for the next few years, offering a solid one-two punch for Coach Zook.

JERMAINE THOMAS: If you missed our "Hot News" update on Jermaine Thomas (Hot News updates always show up on the top of our website), we've confirmed that Jermaine is still with the team at the moment and hasn't left. He could be a serious contributor to the team if things continue to work out.
