"It's official, we're Florida Gators," said Roy Nelson, David's father just before going into the breakfast meeting with Coach Meyer.
Nelson is 6-6, 198, rated the number 39 wide receiver prospect in the nation by Scout.com. He caught 141 passes for 2720 yards and 32 touchdowns in his final two seasons of high school football.
Nelson also is the starting center on the Rider basketball team where he averages 19 points and 11 rebounds per game.
Nelson is fully qualified. He has 3.9 GPA.
Nelson originally committed to Notre Dame but when Coach Ty Willingham and staff were fired, he opened the recruiting doors to other schools. Florida and Iowa were the biggest players for his commitment, but ultimately he chose the Gators. He was a definite lean to Florida coming into this recruiting weekend, but the commitment was sealed by the combination of academics, facilities and Coach Meyer and his staff.
GatorCountry.com will provide a full interview with David Nelson later this morning.
