SPRING: Andre Caldwell Q and A

Posted Mar 17, 2005

At today's first ever spring practice under the Urban Meyre era, Gator Country had the opportunity to ask Andre Caldwell a few questions about his role in the new offensive scheme, especially at H-back and running the ball more.

PUBLISHER'S NOTE: Gator Country's legendary Spring Practice coverage will be free through the weekend so you can see through the hype why everyone comes here for the very best in practice coverage. Unlike the others, we don't brag about it - we deliver!

Andre Caldwell Q and A Thoughts on the Offense…

“We have a great offense with a great scheme and talented players that I think are going to play real well for us out there. We’ve been going over it for awhile and I’m pretty solid on it, but I’m not where I want to be. I’m getting there though.”

On the players adapting to Coach Meyer with little resistance…

“The stuff that [the coaching staff] did in the past led to them winning games and that’s exactly why I came here. That’s the whole goal and we looked at what they were doing and it looked good to us. Their background and the stuff that they’ve been through show where we are heading.”

Comparing Coach Gonzales to Coach Fedora…

“They are both loud guys, but both great coaches. They are player’s coaches that teach you how to be a man on and off the field.”

On the H-Back position…

“It’s a great position where I get to move and get the ball in my hands and that’s why I’m here so I can play. Playing quarterback in high school helped me maneuver around in the back field. It’s the perfect mix of speed and field vision so I think I’m used to the position already.”

On Coach Meyer’s comments about looking forward to him run…

“It’s very exciting for him to say he expects that out of me and right now I’m just looking forward to making his comments come true.”

On the chance to be running it out of the back field…

“The way I look at it, I feel like if I get the ball in my hands I can make plays and come that first game that’s exactly what I’m going to do.”
