SPRING: Saturday Scrimmage Statistics/Play-by-Play

Today was the first time the Florida Gators were able to conduct a full scrimmage under Coach Meyer and Co. While it's still early in the spring, it still offered a good glimpse of what to expect when fall rolls around. Here's a play-by-play and some statistics.

SERIES 1: First Offense Vs. Second Defense

  • 1-10/-35 Chris Leak Incomplete, overthrows a 15 yard pass.
  • 2-10/-35 Skyler Thornton for (-1) yard on a draw up the middle.
  • 3-10/-35 Leak complete to Bubba Caldwell in the right flat, tackled quick for 5 yards.

SERIES 2: Same Two Groups

  • 1-10/-35 Deshawn Wynn run around left end for a tough three yards.
  • 2-7/-38 A sloppy toss by Leak, Wynn collects it and his feet and heads around the right end.for eight yards and a first down.
  • 1-10/-46 In a five wide set, Chris Leak is sacked before ever setting by Michael Hill.
  • 2-19/-38 Leak throws complete over the middle to Cornelius for 11 yards, tackle by Kyle Jackson.
  • 3-5/-49 Ball is snapped high over Leak's head and a loss of 20 yards.

SERIES 3: Second Offense Vs. First Defense

  • 1-10/-35 DeShawn Wynn on a draw play gets ten yards up the middle.
  • 1-10/-45 Portis incomplete pass, Mincey breaks up a shovel pass to Wynn.
  • 2-10/-45 Portis complete to Dane Guthrie on an option route for five yards on the left hash.
  • 3-5/50 Portis, incomplete to Bubba Caldwell over the middle, Jarvis Herring rocks Caldwell as the ball arrives and knocks it out.

SERIES 4: Third Offense Vs. Third Defense

  • 1-10/-35 Cornelius Ingram fakes a handoff and keeps the ball and heads around the left for almost ten yards
  • 2-1 /-44 Walk-on running back Gay takes a draw and runs for 14 yards.
  • 1-10/+42 Ingram overthrows Higgins on an out route on the right side.
  • 2-10/+42 Ingram fakes another handoff and runs around right end for nine yards.
  • 3-1/+33 Gay again on a draw for half a yard.
  • 4-1/+33 Bad snap and low to the ground, Ingram has to land on it.

SERIES 5: First Offense Vs. First Defense

  • 1-10/-35; Chris Leak completes a pass over the top on a post to Chad Jackson who outraces Reggie Lewis to the end zone for a touchdown. The ball went 30 yards in the air and no free safety help on the play.

SERIES 6: First Offense Vs. First Defense

  • 1-10/-35 Leak incomplete pass to Caldwell, holding on Dee Webb, Coach rules it off.
  • 2-10/-35 Leak incomplete again on a deep ball to Dallas Baker, excellent coverage by Kyle Jackson.
  • 3-10/-35 Leak short pass complete to Caldwell for five yards.

SERIES 7: First Offense Vs. First Defense

  • 1-10/-35 Leak complete a screen to Dallas Baker, the throw was off and Baker gets caught for a loss of 1 yard.
  • 2-11/-34 Wynn around left tackle, breaks a tackle at the line of scrimmage and rumbles for 12 yards.
  • 1-10/-46 Leak incomplete, overthrows Kyle Morgan on a deep corner route from Morgan’s slot position.
  • 2-10/-46 Jemalle Cornelius on a reverse option races around the left side for 12 yards.
  • 1-10/+42 Leak complete pass to Chad Jackson for ten yards. He threaded the ball through the outstretched arms of Brandon Siler.
  • 1-10/+32 Leak incomplete to Caldwell, ball is overthrown on a deep sideline pass.
  • Coach Meyer ended the drive there.

SERIES 8: Second Offense Vs. Second Defense

  • 1-10/-35 Toss to Manson for five yards around the left side.
  • 2-5/-40 Gavin Dickey’s pass batted down by Eric Rutledge on the blitz.
  • 3-5/-40 Dickey drops back, tucks it and runs around the right side for 26 yards.
  • 1-10/+34 Dickey shovel/option, shovels to Wynn inside for nine yards.
  • 2-1/+25 Wynn dances up the middle for two yards.
  • 1-10/+23 Dickey complete to Guthrie on a short pass, Guthrie drags a host of defenders for three more yards and six total.
  • 2-3 /+17 Dickey complete for a TD. He throws a strike to Dallas Baker

SERIES 9: Second Offense Vs. Second Defense

  • 1-10/-35 Dickey complete to Kenneth Tookes. A 34 yard bomb on the right side line.
  • 1-10/-35 Dickey complete to Chad Jackson. The ball hits Jackson at the five on a post pattern, carries it 4 more, gain 34 yards
  • 1-1/+1 Dickey incomplete to Guthrie. Nice break-up by Todd McCullough.
  • Coach Meyer ends the series.

SERIES 10: First Offense Vs. First Defense (From Out Of The End Zone)

  • 1-10/-1 Skyler Thornton dances in the end zone and gets tackled for a safety.

SERIES 11: Second Offense Vs. Second Defense (From Out Of The End Zone)

  • 1-10/-1 Thornton runs through a nice hole between the right guard and right tackle, then makes a linebacker miss as he runs for 19 yards.

SERIES 12: First Offense Vs. First Defense

  • 1-10/-1 Leak incomplete, barely misses Chad Jackson deep on the right side.
  • 2-10/-1 Wynn runs hard over the left side for three yards.
  • 3-7/-4 Leak complete to Jackson for 11 yards over the middle.

SERIES 13: Second Offense vs. Second Defense (From Out Of End Zone)

  • 1-10/-1 Dickey hands off to Manson who is swallowed up at the line of scrimmage.
  • 2-10/-1 Dickey incomplete to Jemalle Cornelius. Tony Joiner and Tremaine McCullom break up the pass on the right side line.
  • 3-10/-1; Dickey incomplete to Baker, bad pass.

SERIES 14: First Offense Vs. First Defense (From Out Of End Zone)

  • 1-10/-1 Leak tosses to Thornton who gains two yards around the right side.
  • 2-8/-3 Leak fakes hand off and keeps, he heads around the left side for 14 yards.

SERIES 15: Second Offense Vs. Second Defense

  • 3-10/+50; Leak incomplete to Caldwell who was double covered by Kyle Jackson and Vernell Brown.
  • 3-8/+50; Leak complete for seven yards to Chad Jackson, short of the first down.
  • 3-6/+50; Leak incomplete to Jemalle Cornelius, Kyle Jackson laid Cornelius out when the ball hit his hands.
  • 3-4/+50; Leak takes shovel option to the left and shovels inside to Wynn for eight yards and a first down.
  • Defense up 10-7
  • 3-2/+50; Leak pitches outside to Skyler Thornton for three yards and a first down.

SERIES 16: First Offense Vs. First Defense (Third Down Series)

  • 3-10/+50 Leak incomplete to Caldwell who was double covered by Kyle Jackson and Vernell Brown.
  • 3-8/+50 Leak complete for seven yards to Chad Jackson, short of the first down.
  • 3-6/+50 Leak incomplete to Jemalle Cornelius, Kyle Jackson laid Cornelius out when the ball hit his hands.
  • 3-4/+50 Leak takes shovel option to the left and shovels inside to Wynn for eight yards and a first down. (Defense up, 10-7)
  • 3-2/+50 Leak pitches outside to Skyler Thornton for three yards and a first down.

SERIES 17: Second Offense Vs. Second Defense (Third Down Series)

  • 3-10/+50 Portis sacked on first down, loss of nine yards.
  • 3-8/+50 Portis sacked again, Deshawn Carter on a safety blitz
  • 3-6/+50 Moss almost sacks Portis again, pass incomplete to Chad Jackson. (Score Tied 11-11)
  • 3-4/+50 Chad Jackson on an option reverse from Portis bobbles toss, Tremaine McCullom recovers 15 yards behind the line of scrimmage.
  • 3-2/+50 Manson around left side and tackled by Moss for one yard. (Score 13-11 in favor of Defense)

SERIES 18: First Offense Vs. First Defense (Third Down Series)

  • 3-9/+50 Leak complete to Caldwell for seven, just short of the first down.
  • 3-7/+50 Leak complete to Baker on a comeback on the right side for 12 yards.
  • 3-5/+50 Leak complete to Chad Jackson, he fights for seven yards and a first down.
  • 3-3/+50 Leak complete to Baker on a screen, he has a convoy and takes it for twenty yards.
  • 3-1/ +50 Wynn runs hard inside, spins and gets three yards and a first down.

SERIES 19: Second Offense Vs. Second Defense

  • 3-9/+50 Dickey is sacked on a safety blitz by Tony Joiner
  • 3-7/+50 Dickey scrambles from Joiner and throws the ball away, incomplete.
  • 3-5/+50 Dickey incomplete, threw the ball too hard for Baker to hold onto
  • 3-3 /+50 Dickey overthrows Caldwell deep.
  • 3-1/+50 Dickey option right, keeps it and goes 15 yards.

SERIES 20: First Offense Vs. First Defense (Going Into The End Zone)

  • 1-10/+25 Leak incomplete to Jackson. Penalty, defensive holding, first down.
  • 1-10/+15 Leak complete to Jackson wide open and uncovered on the left side for a touchdown.

SERIES 21: First Offense Vs. First Defense (Going Into The End Zone)

  • 1-10/+25 Portis throws incomplete for Dallas Baker in the endzone.
  • 2-10/+25; Portis throws incomplete.

STATISTICS:

PASSING: Leak 12-22, 177 yards, 2 TDs; Portis 3-8, 21 yards; Dickey 5-12, 100 yards , 1 TD; Ingram 0-1

RUSHING: Thornton 5-22 yards; Wynn 7-41 yards; Manson 7-8 yards; Gay 2-15 yards; Leak 2-6 yards; Portis 4-(-18) yards; Ingram 3-14 yards; Cornelius 1-12 yards; Dickey 3-34 yards
