City College of San Francisco linebacker has been one of the hottest names on the recruiting circuit this year. The Florida Gator commitment is a five-star linebacker according to Scout.com and was expected to be on campus at Florida as an early enrollee. A math class that is not necessary for most conferences but is for the SEC is keeping Grant from enrolling at Florida for the spring semester.

Despite the chance to go elsewhere right away, Grant has decided to finish the math class eventually and become a Gator.

The prevailing thought, including from Grant, was that it was just a matter of a little extra work this week and he would be able to get to Gainesville. Sometimes things don’t go according to plan and that was the case this time. However, Grant won’t let the setback keep him from being a Gator.

“It just means that it is going to take me a little bit more time to get up there,” he said about getting to the University of Florida. “That’s my plan.”

The staff at Florida evidently already knows and has told him to do what he needs to do to become a Gator. They intend on holding his spot for him.

“Everybody knows,” he said about the Gator coaching staff. “They just told me to get the work done. However long it takes, is how long it takes.”

As far as worrying about passing the class again, Grant only has to take the one math class in order to be eligible for SEC competition. He will take it as fast as he can and get to Gainesville as soon as possible.

“I will just have to take the one class this semester, he said. “I am set on my goal to show up at Florida and try to get there mid-semester.”

With only two other linebackers in the 2006 recruiting class, the Florida Gators are looking to sign four. Grant is a huge need for the Gators who lack depth at the big linebacker positions. The 6-3, 225 pound Grant is expected to come in immediately and compete for the vacant strong side linebacker position vacated by outgoing senior Todd McCullough.

The Gators were hoping to add Grant in the spring and that would allow for one extra signee for this 2006 recruiting season. With Grant signing in February and counting against the February totals, the Gators will now probably sign 30-31 prospects in the 2006 class.
