The Gator football team scrimmaged in The Swamp
Wednesday night for the final time of preseason two-a-day workouts. The first
and second teams alternated drives and the squad wrapped up the night in
two-minute situational drills.
On offense, Rex Grossman and Ingle Martin
alternated drives testing out a handful of receivers. On the ground, Earnest
Graham, Ran Carthon and Kelvin Kight tested out the running game breaking some
decent runs throughout the evening. Graham scored on a Grossman handoff for the
first score of the night. Grossman also connected with Taylor Jacobs later in
the night for his second touchdown. Dallas Baker made a nice catch off a Jeff
Crevling pass on the next series. Carlos Perez, Vernell Brown and Darrell
Carpenter also made promising catches. QB’s Gavin Dickey and Patrick Dosh
entered the scrimmage later.
Defensively the Gators alternated a mix of
players. Up front, Ian Scott got his hands on a few of Grossman’s passes to
open the scrimmage. The rest of the defense alternated to apply a constant
pressure on the offense.
The Gators wrap up preseason workouts this
weekend. Tonight’s scrimmage was the last full one of the year. Next week the
team will begin preparations for the season opener with UAB. Kickoff is at 6 pm.
