University of Florida guard Nick Calathes was honored by the Southeastern Conference as its Freshman of the Week Monday after guiding the Gators to a pair of lopsided victories last week.

Nick Calathes averaged 22.0 points, 9.0 assists, 5.5 rebounds and 3.0 steals per game for the Gators, who picked up wins over Jacksonville and Florida A&M.

He opened the week with 24 points, nine assists and six steals in the Gators’ win over the Dolphins on Monday. The 24 points was a career high and the highest total by a Gator freshman since Matt Walsh dropped 29 points on Dec. 28, 2002.

Two days later he flirted with a triple-double against Florida A&M, scoring 20 points, dishing out nine assists once again, and coming up with eight rebounds.

For the week he knocked down 7-of-11 three-point attempts and hit 9-of-11 free throws. Calathes is averaging 15.6 points, 6.0 assists, 3.6 rebounds and 1.5 steals per game on the year.
